How to Get on the X For You Page: What Actually Works in 2026

How do you get on the X For You page?

To get on the X For You page, post on a clear topic so X can match you with people who engage with that topic, then earn replies, quotes and shares in the first hours. The 2026 code removes posts older than 48 hours from For You, and it discounts posts from accounts a viewer doesn't follow.

You've probably seen it happen to someone. A small account posts something ordinary, and replies start arriving from people who have never seen them before. Nothing about the post is clever. It just lands in front of the right small group of people at the right time.

Here's the good news: that's not luck you have to wait for. Once you know how X finds posts for people who don't follow you, you can set yourself up for it on purpose. This is simpler than it sounds.

Is there one For You page everyone sees?

No. There's no single For You page. Every viewer gets their own For You feed, built fresh each time they open it. "Getting on the For You page" really means getting into many individual feeds, especially the feeds of people who don't follow you yet.

The 2026 For You code from xai-org builds each feed from two kinds of posts. In-network posts come from accounts the viewer follows. Out-of-network posts come from accounts they don't follow. The second kind is where new followers come from.

So the real question is how X picks out-of-network posts for someone. Let me explain.

How does X find posts for people who don't follow you?

X finds out-of-network posts mainly by matching. It turns each viewer and each post into a list of numbers (an embedding), then picks posts whose numbers sit close to the viewer's. It also uses SimClusters, which groups accounts and posts by who engages with what.

SimClusters has been around since the 2023 release. The SimClusters README says it found around 145,000 communities from the follow graph. It also says a post's embedding updates every time the post gets a like. That's a 2023 description, but the 2026 README still lists SimClusters as a source of out-of-network posts.

What this means for you: the first people who engage with your post help decide which communities it gets matched to. If the right people like and reply early, your post gets pulled toward more people like them.

What gets a post ranked high once it's found?

Once a post is a candidate, it's ranked by Phoenix, a model that predicts how likely the viewer is to reply, like, share, follow or hit "not interested." The final score adds those predictions together using weights.

As of October 2026, the default weights in the repo's param.rs settings file give a reply 5.0, a quote 5.0, a like 0.66 and a follow of the author 4.0. Sharing a post's link carries 20.0. Muting the author carries -58.8. These weights multiply predicted chances, not raw counts.

Two adjustments matter a lot for For You reach:

The full scoring story is in my guide to how the X algorithm works in 2026.

Step by step: how to get on the X For You page

The steps below follow directly from the code: be easy to match, get strong early signals, avoid negative ones, and post while your audience is active. You can start all of them today.

  1. Pick a clear lane. Post mostly about one or two topics. Matching works better when your posts and your audience point the same way. My guide on improving content relevance on X shows how.
  2. Write to start a conversation. End with a real question or a clear opinion people can answer. Replies carry far more weight than likes.
  3. Reply to your replies. In the 2023 release, a reply the author engaged with had a weight of 75.0. The 2026 file doesn't use that exact signal, so treat it as history, but conversations still feed the reply predictions.
  4. Make it worth sharing. A useful tip, a clear chart, or a checklist gets sent to friends. Share actions carry big weights in the 2026 file.
  5. Post when your people are online. The For You code filters out posts older than 48 hours, so early engagement matters.
  6. Avoid bait. "Not interested" sits at -52.272 and report at -234.0. Annoying a crowd costs more than boring it.

Small wins count here. Your first post that pulls replies from non-followers is a sign the matching is working.

How do replies help you reach For You?

Thoughtful replies on bigger posts in your niche put your name in front of people who don't follow you yet. If they tap your profile and follow, they become in-network, and your posts no longer face the out-of-network discount for them.

Timing helps. Based on what I've seen, a reply on a fresh post gets read far more than one added after hundreds of others. I built a free extension, XVision, partly for this. It shows a "Reply early" badge on fresh posts from bigger accounts that still have few replies. My guide to writing replies that add value covers what to actually say.

How can you tell if a post reached For You?

The clearest sign is engagement from people who don't follow you. Likes, replies and follows from new names usually mean your post reached out-of-network feeds. A post's views far above your follower count is another strong sign.

XVision shows a "Viral" or "Rising" badge when a post reaches far beyond its author's followers, which is a quick way to spot it in your feed. For broader tactics, see my guide to getting more impressions on X.

You can absolutely get on the X For You page

Getting on the X For You page isn't about tricks. It's about being easy to match and worth engaging with. Pick a lane, start conversations, stay helpful, and post when your people are around. Each post that reaches strangers teaches the system who your audience is, and that makes the next one easier.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long does a post stay eligible for the For You feed?

The 2026 For You code includes an AgeFilter that removes posts older than 48 hours from For You candidates. Most For You reach happens within two days of posting. After that, a post can still be found through your profile, search, or links people share.

Do small accounts have a chance on the For You page?

Yes, small accounts have a real chance. The 2026 README describes a new-author boost that lifts posts from authors with impressions below a threshold toward a target position. X doesn't publish the threshold, but the boost exists to help newer voices get seen.

Do hashtags help a post get on For You?

X hasn't confirmed that hashtags affect For You ranking. The 2026 code matches posts to viewers mostly through embeddings and engagement history. X's Help Center recommends no more than 2 hashtags per post, and clear wording on a clear topic matters more for matching.

Why do some posts reach For You and others don't?

Posts that reach For You usually get strong early engagement from people the system can match to others. Posts that get few replies, get skipped quickly, or draw "not interested" taps score lower. Out-of-network posts also face a discount factor below 1 in the 2026 code.

Does following people help me get on For You?

Following people shapes your own For You feed, not your reach. Your posts reach For You when viewers engage with them. Following and engaging with accounts in your niche does help you join those conversations, which can bring their audience to your profile.
