Why is Twitter analytics not showing impressions?
Twitter analytics usually stops showing impressions because of access rules or timing. Since 2024, full account analytics on X has been tied to a Premium subscription. Numbers can also take up to 36 hours to stabilize, and analytics may be missing for accounts under 14 days old or with policy problems.
You tap the little chart icon expecting numbers, and you get a blank screen, a dash or an upgrade prompt. It's frustrating, especially when you're trying to see what's working.
The fix is simpler than you'd expect. In most cases the numbers aren't lost. They're either locked behind a setting, still processing, or not tracked for that kind of post. Let me explain how to tell which one you're facing.
What is the difference between view counts and analytics?
View counts and analytics are two different things on X (formerly Twitter). The view count is the public number under every post. Analytics is the private dashboard with impressions, engagement rate and profile visits over time.
X's view counts help page says anyone logged in can see view counts, and your own views of your post count too. Analytics is where access rules come in. If you can see the view count but not the dashboard, the problem is access, not tracking.
Do you need Premium to see Twitter analytics?
For full account analytics, usually yes. Social Media Today reported in June 2024 that X moved account analytics behind Premium, and later guides describe the same setup. Post-level numbers can still appear on individual posts.
The reporting is consistent here. Social Media Today wrote that "all account analytics have now become paid only." A March 2026 Sprout Social guide says you need a subscription to view analytics for multiple posts, and lists the desktop path as Premium, then Analytics.
One honest note. X's own Ads help page still describes the activity dashboards as free, and the help center no longer has a current article on account analytics. X hasn't cleared up that mismatch, and which legacy Premium tier includes analytics isn't confirmed on an official page. On The X Subscription, launched October 12, 2026, xAI's pricing page lists Advanced Analytics from the Plus plan up. If an upgrade prompt appears where the dashboard used to be, that's the access rule at work.
Are your impressions just delayed?
Often they are. Brand new posts can show low or empty numbers for a while, and the totals keep shifting for more than a day after posting.
According to X's Post Activity Dashboard help page, metrics usually update within seconds but take up to 36 hours to stabilize. The view counts page says a new post's count can take up to a minute to appear. Social Media Today also reported in 2025 that audience data for a post takes about a day.
So if a post is only hours old, wait a day before you decide anything is broken.
Which posts never show impressions?
Some post types don't get view counts at all. X lists Community posts, X Circle posts and older posts as having no view counts available.
If your blank posts are all in Communities, that's expected behavior, not a bug. Embedded posts are another gap. X says views on embedded posts don't add to the count, so traffic from a blog embed won't appear.
Could your account status hide analytics?
Yes. X's dashboard help page says that if you can't see data, it's likely your account has been found in violation of its rules or policies. Sprout Social also lists accounts younger than 14 days, and accounts posting mainly in unsupported languages, as cases where analytics may not show.
If you suspect a rule problem, check for notices in the app first. My guide on how to tell if a Twitter account is restricted walks through every sign, including X's Under the Hood report.
Quick fixes when Twitter analytics is not showing impressions
Work through these from easiest to hardest. Most people find the answer in the first three steps.
- Wait 24 to 36 hours on new posts before judging them.
- Check the post type. Community and Circle posts won't show views.
- Check your plan. If you see an upgrade prompt, the dashboard needs Premium.
- Try another surface. Open the post on the web and in the app. If one shows numbers, update or reinstall the other.
- Turn off browser extensions for a minute and reload, in case one is hiding page elements.
- Look for account notices about locks, limits or verification.
What if you don't want to pay for analytics?
You still have options. The public view count under each post is free, and you can log those numbers yourself in a simple sheet each day.
I built a free extension, XVision, that rates each of your posts against your usual views and tracks daily follower gains. To be clear, it doesn't show X's official impressions analytics. It reads what's visible on x.com. For more free routes, see Twitter analytics alternatives for beginners, and for the official dashboard, my guide on using Twitter analytics in 2026.
Missing numbers are usually a settings problem
Based on what I've seen, blank analytics almost always comes down to access, timing or post type. Check those three before you worry about your account. And if your numbers do show but look worse than usual, my guide on what to do when Twitter impressions suddenly dropped picks up from there.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why do I see views on my post but no analytics?
Views and analytics come from different places on X. The view count under a post is public and shows for logged-in users on most posts. The analytics dashboard is a separate feature, and since 2024 reports say full account analytics on X requires a Premium subscription.
How long do X impressions take to update?
X impressions usually update within a few seconds, according to X's Post Activity Dashboard help page. The same page says numbers take up to 36 hours to stabilize, so small changes are normal during that time. A brand new post's view count can take up to a minute to appear.
Why are my Community posts showing no views?
Community posts show no views because X doesn't provide view counts for them. X's view counts help page lists Community posts, X Circle posts and older posts as types without view counts. Share important posts to your main timeline if you want to measure them.
Can a new account see Twitter analytics?
A brand new account may not see Twitter analytics right away. Sprout Social's 2026 guide lists accounts younger than 14 days as one reason analytics can be unavailable. Access to full account analytics on X is also tied to a Premium subscription, according to recent reporting.
Is the analytics.twitter.com link still working?
The old analytics.twitter.com address still works, but at the time of writing (October 2026) it redirects to x.com/i/account_analytics, which is X's account analytics page. You must be logged in to open it. If you see an upgrade prompt there, the dashboard needs a Premium subscription.
