How do you check impressions on Twitter?
To check impressions on Twitter (X), look at the view count under any post, or open the post, tap the three dots and choose View analytics. For account-wide totals, go to x.com/i/account_analytics. As of October 2026, guides from Hootsuite and Sprout Social say that full dashboard needs X Premium.
Checking impressions used to be simple. You opened analytics and there they were. Then X (formerly Twitter) moved things around, put the dashboard behind a subscription, and renamed menus along the way.
Here's the good news. You can still see impressions for free, just not everything in one place. This guide walks through each method, from the quickest to the most detailed.
Method 1: Read the view count on any post
The fastest way to check impressions on Twitter is the view count shown on every post. It sits next to the small chart icon under a post in your timeline, and next to the date and time when you open the post.
According to X's help page on view counts, anyone on X can see these counts, on your posts and on everyone else's. A view counts each time a logged-in person sees the post, and your own views count too.
A few posts won't show a count: Community posts, Circle posts and older posts. New posts can also take up to a minute before the number appears.
Method 2: Open post analytics in the app (free)
Post analytics show impressions plus the actions behind them, and you can open them without Premium on mobile. Hootsuite's October 2026 analytics guide describes the steps:
- Open the X app and tap one of your posts.
- Tap the three dots in the top right corner of the post.
- Tap View analytics.
You'll see impressions, engagements, detail expands, new followers and profile visits for that post. Sprout Social's guide describes the same screen opening from the chart icon on a post. X changes these buttons often, so if one path is missing, try the other.
Method 3: Use the account analytics dashboard (Premium)
The account dashboard shows impressions across all your posts over time. You can reach it two ways:
- Go straight to x.com/i/account_analytics on desktop.
- Or open the menu on the left, then choose Premium or Creator Studio, then Analytics.
Sprout Social's 2026 guide says the overview shows impressions, engagement rate, profile visits and new followers, with ranges of 7 days, 28 days, 3 months or a year.
Now, who can use it? X made account analytics a Premium feature in June 2024, as Social Media Today reported at the time. Hootsuite's October 2026 guide still says the full dashboard is only available to Premium. On the newer X Subscription plans, x.ai's pricing page lists "Advanced Analytics" from the Plus plan up. X's help center has no current analytics article, so which legacy Premium tier includes the dashboard isn't officially confirmed. Check your own account. If you're on a free account, Method 2 is your best option.

Method 4: Pull impressions through the X API
Developers can read impressions directly. X's API documentation lists impression_count as a public metric on posts, next to likes, reposts, replies, quotes and bookmarks.
Private metrics like link clicks and profile clicks need you to sign in as the account owner. The docs also say non-public and organic metrics are only available for posts created in the last 30 days. Most people won't need this, but it's handy if you're building your own tracker.
Why your impressions might look wrong
Impressions can look off for a few normal reasons. Most of the time, nothing is broken.
- The numbers are still settling. X's business help says its dashboard metrics can take up to 36 hours to stabilize.
- Your own views are included in the public view count.
- Repeat views count. One person on two devices can add two views.
- Your account is new. Sprout Social notes analytics may not appear for accounts younger than 14 days.
If impressions are missing entirely, Twitter analytics not showing impressions covers the fixes. If they're showing but low, why your Twitter impressions are so low is the next stop.
What to do with the numbers
A single impression number doesn't tell you much. The useful part is comparing posts with each other and watching the trend.
- Note your typical views per post. That's your baseline.
- Flag any post that gets double your baseline and ask why.
- Check the same numbers weekly, not hourly.
To turn those checks into a habit, read how to track Twitter impressions over time. And if you're unsure how impressions differ from engagement, impressions vs engagement explained clears it up.
One small tip: I built a free extension, XVision, that shows each post's public views next to how far it reached compared with the author's follower count, right in the feed. It doesn't replace X's analytics, but it makes quick comparisons easier.
Checking impressions is easier than it looks
To check impressions on Twitter, start with the view count, open post analytics for detail, and use the account dashboard if you have Premium. Once you know where each number lives, checking takes seconds, and you can spend your time on what the numbers are telling you.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I check Twitter impressions without Premium?
Yes, you can check impressions on X without Premium. View counts are public on every post, and Hootsuite's October 2026 guide says post-level analytics are still free in the mobile app through the three-dot menu and View analytics. The account-wide analytics dashboard is the part that requires X Premium.
Can I see impressions on someone else's tweets?
Yes, you can see view counts on other people's posts on X. The X help center says anyone on X can see view counts, whether they are the author or a reader. Detailed analytics such as engagements, profile visits and link clicks are only visible to the account that posted.
Why don't some of my posts show a view count?
Some posts on X don't show view counts by design. The X help center lists Community posts, X Circle posts and older posts as types without view counts. A brand-new post can also take up to a minute before the count appears, so wait briefly before assuming something is wrong.
How often do Twitter impressions update?
Impressions on X usually update within seconds, but X's business help center says dashboard metrics can take up to 36 hours to stabilize. Small changes during the first day or two are normal. For fair comparisons, review a post's numbers after it has been live for at least two days.
Can I check impressions on Twitter from a desktop browser?
Yes. On a desktop browser, the view count shows on every post on x.com. For account-wide impressions, visit x.com/i/account_analytics. Hootsuite's October 2026 guide says that dashboard requires X Premium, while free post-level analytics are easiest to reach in the mobile app.
