What are the X creator monetization requirements?
X creator monetization requirements depend on the program. As of October 2026, Original Content Rewards needs X Premium, 500 verified followers and 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in 90 days. Creator Subscriptions needs 2,000 verified followers and 5 million organic impressions in 3 months. Both require being 18 or older.
I've noticed a lot of confusion about these numbers. Many posts still quote the old Revenue Sharing rules, which no longer apply. So I went straight to X's own help pages and pulled every requirement into one place.
Here's why this matters. If you aim at the wrong target, you can spend months chasing a number that X doesn't even use anymore. Knowing the real rules lets you plan your growth with confidence.
Which X monetization programs exist in October 2026?
X runs two main creator payout programs as of October 2026: Original Content Rewards and Creator Subscriptions. Creator Revenue Sharing, the older program, was retired on September 7, 2026.
Original Content Rewards pays you based on how many Premium users see your original posts. Creator Subscriptions lets fans pay you a monthly fee. They have different requirements, so it helps to look at each one on its own. For a wider view of all the ways to earn, including ones X doesn't control, see how to make money on X in 2026.
Original Content Rewards requirements
To apply for Original Content Rewards, you must meet every requirement below at the time you apply. This list comes from the Original Content Rewards help page, as of October 2026.
- Location: be based in a country where the program is available.
- Age: be 18 or older.
- Account standing: no history of repeatedly breaking X's monetization guidelines or terms.
- Account type: a Personal or Business account. Political and government organizations are not eligible.
- Subscription: active Premium, Premium+ or Premium Business, or a Plus, Premium, Super or Ultra plan on The X Subscription.
- Impressions: at least 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users in the last 90 days. Impressions on replies don't count.
- Followers: at least 500 verified followers.
- Content: actively post original content.
Two details are easy to miss. First, meeting the rules does not guarantee approval. X reviews each application. Second, if X rejects you, you get one appeal. If that fails, you can reapply after 42 days, as long as you still qualify.
Creator Subscriptions requirements
Creator Subscriptions has a higher bar. As of October 2026, X's Subscriptions policy lists these requirements:
- Be 18 or older
- Have a complete profile with an account name, bio, profile picture and header image
- Have a verified email address and two-factor authentication turned on
- Be subscribed to X Premium
- Have posted in the past 30 days
- Have 2,000 or more active followers with Premium subscriptions
- Have 5,000,000 or more organic impressions in the last 3 months
- Complete identity verification
Notice the wording on followers. X counts followers who pay for Premium, not your total follower count. An account with 10,000 followers could still fall short if few of them are Premium users. My guide to Twitter subscriptions for creators explains what you can offer once you're in.
How do the two programs compare?
Original Content Rewards is the easier program to reach. Its follower bar is a quarter of the Subscriptions bar, and its impression target is far lower.
| Requirement | Original Content Rewards | Creator Subscriptions |
|---|---|---|
| Verified followers | 500 | 2,000 |
| Impressions | 500,000 from verified users, last 90 days | 5,000,000 organic, last 3 months |
| Premium needed | Yes | Yes |
| Minimum age | 18 | 18 |
| Minimum payout | $30, every two weeks | $50, rolls over until met |
What account standards apply to every monetized creator?
Every creator who earns on X must also meet X's general monetization standards. These cover your profile, security and identity, not just your numbers.
X's Creator Monetization Standards ask for a complete profile, a verified email, two-factor authentication and identity verification. They also bar state-affiliated media accounts. This part is actually really easy. You can fix most of it in an afternoon. If your profile feels thin, my profile optimization guide helps you fill it out in a way that also wins followers.
Which content rules can cost you eligibility?
Your posts must be original and must not fake engagement. X can remove creators who break these rules, even after approval.
For Original Content Rewards, X says content is ineligible if it is:
- Copied or substantially reproduced from another creator
- Downloaded and reuploaded from X or another platform, unless you made it
- Focused only on monetization coaching or maximizing payouts
- Created or posted by automated means
- Misleading, or carrying a helpful Community Note
X also bans engagement solicitation, which means repeatedly asking people to like, reply, repost or follow. Bots and tools that fake views or follows are off limits too.
How do you check if you meet the requirements?
You can check your status in Creator Studio on X. Open the main menu, choose Creator Studio, then pick Original Content Rewards or Subscriptions.
X shows whether you qualify and lets you apply when you do. For payouts, U.S. creators connect an X Money account. Creators outside the U.S. connect Stripe and complete identity verification there.
What this means for your plan
If you're below the thresholds, the impression target is usually the hard part. Getting to 500 verified followers takes steady posting, but 500,000 Home Timeline impressions in 90 days takes posts that travel. My guides on getting more impressions on X and earning money from Twitter impressions cover how to work toward that.
Until then, you can still earn. Plenty of income on X never touches these programs. My guide to monetizing Twitter without a large following covers those options.
Know the rules, then build toward them
X creator monetization requirements look strict, but they're clear. Get your profile, security and Premium sorted first. Then focus on original posts that real people want to read. X can change these rules at any time, so check the help pages before you apply. Once you know the target, every post becomes a step toward it.
Frequently Asked Questions
What does verified followers mean for X monetization?
Verified followers are followers who pay for an X Premium subscription. X's Subscriptions policy describes them as active followers with Premium subscriptions. Your total follower count doesn't matter for these programs. As of October 2026, Original Content Rewards needs 500 of them and Creator Subscriptions needs 2,000.
Do replies count toward X monetization impressions?
No, replies don't count toward the Original Content Rewards impression target. X's help page says the 500,000 Home Timeline impressions from verified users must come from your posts, with impressions on replies excluded. Replies can still help you grow followers who later see your main posts in their timelines.
Can I apply again if X rejects my monetization application?
Yes, you can try again. For Original Content Rewards, X allows one appeal after a rejection. If the appeal fails, you can reapply after 42 days, as long as you still meet all the eligibility requirements. Use that time to check that your posts are clearly original.
Is X monetization available in every country?
No, X monetization is not available everywhere. Original Content Rewards works only in countries listed on X's help page, and Subscriptions works in countries supported by X's payment provider. As of October 2026, both lists include over 100 countries, such as India, the United Kingdom and Nigeria.
Do I need two-factor authentication to monetize on X?
Yes, two-factor authentication is part of X's Creator Monetization Standards. X also asks for a verified email address, a complete profile with a bio, profile photo and header image, and identity verification. These checks help protect your account and your payouts from people who try to take them over.
