Why Are My Replies Getting No Views? How X Ranks Replies

Why are my replies getting no views?

Replies get few views on X because they're ranked, not shown in order. X's help center says reply ranking weighs whether the original author replied, whether the viewer follows you, and whether you're a Premium subscriber. Late replies under busy posts sink below hundreds of others, and replies rarely appear in followers' For You feeds.

You write a smart, careful reply under a big account's post. An hour later it has 9 views. Meanwhile a two-word reply above yours has 4,000. It feels unfair, and a little confusing.

Here's the thing: this is how replies are built to work on X (formerly Twitter), not a sign you're being punished. Once you see how replies are sorted, it becomes much easier to get yours seen. Let me explain.

How does X decide which replies people see?

X groups replies into sub-conversations and ranks them by what it thinks each reader will find relevant, credible and safe. A reply's position in the thread decides most of its views.

X's help page on conversations says that when ranking a reply higher, X considers whether the original post author has replied, whether the reply is from someone you follow, and whether the replier is an X Premium subscriber or on a paid X Subscription plan.

So the same reply can sit near the top for one reader and far down for another. Most readers never scroll past the first handful.

Do replies show up in your followers' feeds?

Mostly no. Replies live inside conversations, and X shows them in Home timelines only to a small, relevant group. That's a big reason replies get fewer views than original posts.

X's conversations page says only relevant people, such as those who follow both you and someone in the conversation, see your reply in their Home timeline. The open-source X For You code goes further. It filters out replies from accounts the viewer doesn't follow, and it discounts replies even from accounts the viewer does follow.

If you want all your followers to see something you said in a reply, X suggests reposting it or using a quote post instead.

Does timing matter for replies?

Yes, a lot. An early reply on a post that's about to take off can collect views as the post spreads. A reply added after hundreds of others is competing for space nobody scrolls to.

This is the simplest change with the biggest payoff. Reply to fresh posts from accounts a bit bigger than yours, ideally within the first few minutes. I built a free extension, XVision, that adds a "Reply early" badge to fresh posts from bigger accounts that still have few replies, so you can spot those chances while scrolling.

Does X Premium help replies get seen?

Somewhat. X says people "will see a slight preference for replies from verified accounts," and its Premium tiers list reply prioritization, with larger prioritization on higher tiers. X gives no exact boost and says it's still testing the levels.

Two notes before you pay. First, X Premium became part of The X Subscription in October 2026, so plan names have changed. Check X's Premium help page for current details. Second, a paid reply that adds nothing still won't earn engagement. X's Premium FAQ says replies can be marked as spam if they're unrelated, low quality or manipulative, whatever your plan.

Are your replies being treated as spam?

Sometimes replies sink because they look like spam. X's Authenticity policy lists bulk, aggressive replies and replies that promote content unrelated to the original post as content spam.

The same policy says X can respond by downranking posts in replies. Patterns that raise flags include:

If all your replies have collapsed at once, and you've seen a notice about limited features, read how to tell if a Twitter account is restricted.

Are your posts protected?

If your account is protected, your replies are almost invisible to strangers. X's help page on protected posts says replies you send to an account that doesn't follow you won't be seen by that account.

Check Settings, then Privacy and safety, then Audience. If you want replies to help you grow, your posts need to be public.

How do you write replies that get seen?

Write replies the author wants to answer. Since X weighs whether the original author replied, a reply that starts a real exchange with them tends to climb the thread.

  1. Add something new: a specific example, a number, or a quick story.
  2. Ask a real question the author can answer in one line.
  3. Keep it short enough to read without tapping "Show more."
  4. Pick posts in your niche so the readers are people who might follow you.
  5. Answer people who reply to your reply. Mini-conversations keep your sub-thread active.

If your replies are getting no views, play the long game

Based on what I've seen, replies are still one of the best ways for a small account to get noticed, even when individual replies get few views. The ones that land bring profile visits from exactly the right people. Reply early, reply in your niche, and make the author want to answer. Frequently Asked Questions

Do replies count as impressions on X?

Yes, replies are posts with their own view counts on X. X's view counts help page says any logged-in person who views a post counts as a view, wherever they see it. Your reply's views are separate from the views on the original post you replied to.

Why does my reply show at the bottom of the thread?

A reply shows near the bottom because X ranks replies instead of listing them by time. X's conversations help page says ranking considers whether the original author replied, whether the viewer follows you, and whether you're a Premium subscriber. Late replies on busy posts also face more competition.

Does X Premium guarantee my replies get views?

No, X Premium doesn't guarantee reply views. X says readers see "a slight preference for replies from verified accounts" and that it's still testing the levels. X's Premium FAQ also says replies can be marked as spam if they're unrelated or low quality, regardless of subscription.

Is there a limit on how many replies I can post?

Yes, X has daily posting limits, but its limits page lists two different figures, including 200 replies per day for unverified accounts in one place. If you hit a limit, X shows an error naming it. Bulk replying can also break X's spam rules before any limit is reached.

Why do my replies get likes but few views?

Replies can get likes but few views when a small group of engaged readers sees them. That often means the reply landed with the original author or people deep in the thread. Answering those people keeps the sub-conversation active, which can lift the reply higher for later readers.
